Reviews · Coffee
There’s so many mushroom coffee brands out there and with the constant ads being pushed on us, I can never tell which ones are worth trying. Some have great ratings but taste like absolute dirt, and instead of helping my gut health, they make me more bloated! And don't even get me started on the brands that make you subscribe before you've even tried their coffee.
I was a die-hard coffee lover but the anxiety I would get from my morning brew just wasn’t worth it anymore, so I’m determined to find the mushroom blend that will satisfy my cravings.
Which is why I decided to buy and test 32 mushroom coffees based on my energy levels, mental focus, jitters, bloat and TASTE. Here’s the 10 that made the cut:
The 10 that made the cut
No. 1
Cuppa Healthy Mushroom Coffee

The taste was a 10/10 for me! Absolutely delicious, with a rich and robust coffee flavor and bold, nutty aroma. It's made with real organic coffee extract and was the ONLY one where I couldn't taste the mushrooms or any of the added nootropics. It honestly felt like I wasn't giving up coffee or sacrificing taste for the health benefits, which was a huge deal for me.
I had no bloat once I started drinking this blend, and the added nootropics were great for my mental focus. But the biggest difference was the energy! No jitters, caffeine crash or afternoon slump. I felt energized and focused all day without needing my usual second cup of coffee. I even noticed I was sleeping better, waking up more refreshed and feeling less anxious.
Cuppa is made with high-quality ingredients and 100% organic fruiting body mushrooms. I also love that it's tested for mold and mycotoxins, comes in both Instant Coffee and K-Cup Pods, AND doesn't require a subscription to purchase. Plus, they offer a money-back guarantee if you don't like it. Between the taste, steady energy and health benefits, this was an easy first choice. Nothing else I tried came close!

No. 2
Four Sigmatic

This one tastes good, good coffee notes but it’s a tad too dark for my preference. Also, you can taste the mushrooms so it ranked under Cuppa. It’s tested for mold and mycotoxins which is nice but it made me feel jittery which is something I’m trying to avoid. I can definitely see why Four Sigmatic has such a loyal following, especially if you already enjoy darker coffee blends, which is why it’s ranked number 2.
No. 3
Ryze

If you love mushrooms, this one’s for you because you can fully taste them in this blend. It has 6 functional mushrooms which is great but it didn’t taste much like coffee and there is only 300mg of each mushroom per serving. I wish they included higher amounts of each mushroom, especially since the functional mushrooms are such a big selling point. Also the price per serving is good but unfortunately you have to subscribe to purchase and I can’t really deal with the hassle- plus if you don’t like it, they don’t have a money back guarantee which the other two picks do.
No. 4
Everyday Dose

If you like added collagen in your coffee, this might be a good pick for you. It makes it creamier however it definitely alters the taste. I prefer a more actual coffee taste so I ranked this 4. Plus there is a sneaky subscription which I didn’t like. Also one pack runs out really fast! I followed the recommended dosing and instead of a month supply I finished it in 2 weeks… turns out this was a common complaint in the reviews so I wish I checked those earlier before purchasing.
No. 5
Cuppa Salted Caramel

Another Cuppa flavor! This one has all the goodies and health benefits of their Original Mushroom Coffee Blend but it has a delicious Salted Caramel aroma for the days I want a different flavor for my morning. There’s no sugar and it's not overly sweet, but has that delicious buttery caramel flavor that makes my morning coffee feel like a treat.

No. 6
MudWTR

MUD/WTR really surprised me. On top of mushrooms it also has some spices for flavor and antioxidants. Their ingredients are high quality and organic which is great but personally the spices are too overpowering. It doesn’t resemble coffee to me and it’s not something I reach for everyday. I wanted to like it but the taste really isn’t for me- great antioxidant-rich ingredients though!
No. 7
Cuppa French Vanilla

I had to put this Cuppa flavor on as well. It’s very creamy and subtle, I’d say it’s sweeter than the Salted Caramel but in the best way. My husband is obsessed with this flavor. We buy the Year of Coffee Bundle which includes all 3 of these flavors so it’s perfect for us. Like all their blends, it gives us balanced energy and my husband said he had no headaches when switching over from regular coffee.

No. 8
Ten Mushrooms Coffee

This one has a whopping 10 different functional mushrooms, which sounds great on paper! Plus, it's one of the more affordable options, so I can see why people give it a try. But my biggest complaint was the taste. It's very earthy and doesn't really have that rich coffee flavor I was looking for. There was even a slightly bitter aftertaste and a lot of sludge left at the bottom of the cup, which I later saw people mentioning in the reviews, guess it’s a common issue. It's a good budget-friendly option if you don't mind tasting the mushrooms, but definitely not my first choice for replacing regular coffee.
No. 9
Journey Mushroom Coffee Blend Caramel

I really liked the idea of this one because I enjoyed Cuppa’s Salted Caramel flavor a lot! Journey uses real dark roast coffee, functional mushrooms and added collagen, which gives it a creamier consistency. But the collagen is where it lost me… I definitely noticed the flavor as an aftertaste and in my opinion it wasn’t pleasant. If you’re like me and like a classic coffee taste, collagen might be a little too much.
No. 10
WepBio Mushroom Coffee Toasted Hazelnut

If you love hazelnut coffee, this one might be worth trying. It has 11 functional mushrooms and a creamy, nutty flavor but it still has the earthy mushroom taste. My biggest hesitation is the caffeine content. The Toasted Hazelnut flavor only has about 20mg per serving, which is much lower than regular coffee. That might be perfect if you're trying to cut caffeine almost completely, but if you still want a little morning pick-me-up, it might not be enough. Plus after doing more research I saw Cuppa has a Hazelnut flavor too so if Hazelnut is a flavor you’re searching for I’d recommend that one as well, since I am more confident on the caffeine level, flavor, and overall benefits. But if you ever want to make this coffee on the go, it comes in serving size sticks which is cool.
The Verdict
My final Verdict!
It’s Cuppa by a landslide! I prefer the original and salted caramel flavor but the French Vanilla is good as well. I also ordered the Hazelnut so I’ll be testing that soon and I’ll update in the comments how I feel about it.
